About Paper IO
Paper IO is a territory-claiming arena game where you control a square that leaves a trail, and the goal is to encircle regions to claim them as your territory. Step outside your territory and you're vulnerable - if anyone crosses your trail before you close the loop back to safety, you die.
The tension is the exposure. Inside your territory you're safe; outside, drawing the boundary of a new claim, you're one crossed line from death. Big claims pay more but require longer exposed trails; small claims are safe but slow. Every excursion is a risk calculation.
Killing opponents works the same way - cross their trail while they're exposed and they pop, dropping their territory neutral. Aggressive players hunt others' trails; defensive players consolidate territory and let opponents die to greed.
The leaderboard tracks total territory held. Games are continuous - die, respawn with a small territory, immediately rejoin the claim-and-kill loop. The simplicity is why it's addictive.
How to Play
Steer your square with arrow keys, WASD, or swipe. You auto-move forward; inputs change direction.
Claim territory by drawing a loop. Leave your territory, draw a boundary, and return to your territory to fill the enclosed area.
Stay safe inside your territory. Outside it, your trail is vulnerable - if anyone (including you) crosses it, you die.
Kill opponents by crossing their exposed trails. When they're outside their territory drawing a claim, intersect their line to eliminate them.

Tips
Make small claims early to build a safe base. Greedy large claims require long exposed trails that are easy for opponents to cut.
Hunt exposed opponents. Players mid-claim are vulnerable - cutting their trail kills them and opens their territory.
Don't chase kills deep into enemy territory. Enclosed enemy zones work against you; force opponents into open exposed lanes.
Watch your own trail length. The longer you're exposed, the more chance someone cuts you - close loops quickly rather than drawing huge boundaries.
